Memphis Light, Gas and Water mourns one of its own. Roland Hayes, Customer Service Brunswick, and North, died early this week. He was just two months shy of celebrating his 25-year anniversary with MLGW. "Mr. Roland Hayes was a good man, and he will be truly missed," said George Anderson, Customer Service Brunswick and North. Anderson went on to say, "He always showed a lot of love to me, his co-workers, and MLGW customers. Mr. Hayes always got commendation letters from customers expressing their thanks for his help, and for the work he performed at their homes."
Anderson added, "When I think about his character, I think
about the story of the turtle and the rabbit. Roland Hayes took his time and
was very consistent, like the turtle in the story. His mind stayed focused on
the goal-at-hand. When he went on service calls, we knew that the job was going
to get done right."
Hayes began work at MLGW as a Helper, Service Maintenance in October 1997. He
went on to become a Utility Worker 1, then a Utility Worker 2 in 1999. In 2011,
he started working as a Customer Service Technician 3. Hayes was a Manassas
High School graduate, took college level courses after high school, and earned
certificates from the Memphis Skill Center and the North American Training Academy.
A funeral was held on August 30 at Temple of Deliverance.
