Work in Progress

Bump bump...bump bump...

Yes, we hear it too. The sound your car makes when you drive across one of the steel plates #MLGW has installed over a "cut" in the road. (Cuts are the square-cut holes made in pavement.)

The good news is - that steel plate means a work order has been opened to make repairs.

Work Orders

Currently there are close to 1,500 work orders open for street repairs in Memphis and Shelby County. MLGW crews finish anywhere from 12 to 16 each day. The number of repairs completed depends on several things:

  • The size of the "cut." It takes more time to repair large cuts.
  • Travel time between repair locations.
  • The time it takes to block off the work area for safety.
  • Weather.
  • The number of employees working on a particular day.
  • Whether or not concrete is needed.

For now, MLGW's efforts are focused on adding concrete to major streets. As those repairs are made, we can begin to lay concrete at repairs located on side streets.
