Plus-1 Telethon Raises $62,000 for Families in Need

On April 7, MLGW hosted its third consecutive Plus-1 telethon with MIFA and WREG and raised more than $62,000; enough to help about 300 families.
A big thank you to all who volunteered and donated! The telethon could not take place without your support. We especially thank our sponsors:
$5,000-TVA
$5,000-Colored Girls
$5,000-Fred's Dollar Stores
$25,000-Service Master

The Plus-1 program was created in 1982 and is a partnership between MIFA and MLGW to provide utility assistance for individuals and families in financial crisis. In 2014, Plus-1 kept the lights on for more than 2,400 families.
The telethon increases awareness and participation of the program. During the day-long event, viewers were urged to call and sign-up for Plus-1. By adding $1 to their monthly bill or making a one-time gift, callers helped families in crisis. The Plus-1 program offers one-time assistance and serves as a "stop gap" measure to those in need, not an on-going source of assistance.

If you missed the telethon, you can still donate. Visit mlgw.com/Plus1 or call 544-6549 and enter 1261 at the prompts to make a monthly contribution or a one-time donation.
