Storm Shelter Registry Will Aid Disaster Responders

People who have installed storm shelters or safe rooms at their homes or businesses need to register them with the Shelby County Office of Preparedness.

“Many people throughout Shelby County have installed storm shelters.  It’s important we know where these are located in the event of a disaster,” said Bob Nations, Jr., Director of the Shelby County Office of Preparedness.

Emergency dispatchers will use the registry to notify firefighters, paramedics, and other responders during a crisis.  “By knowing these locations, we’ll have a better chance of rescuing people should they become trapped,” added Director Nations.

Shelter owners can register their addresses with the Shelby County Office of Preparedness by email at:  www.staysafeshelby.us

Look for the “Residential Storm Shelter Registry” on the home page.  The registry will not be shared with the public.
