MLGW’s 1st Annual Race to CARE a Success

Event Raises $72,000 for Minor Energy Efficiency Improvements

The 1st Annual Race to CARE 5K Run/Walk raised $72,000, which will allow Project CARE to assist 150 Memphis Light, Gas and Water customers.

Project CARE is designed to help MLGW customers reduce their energy consumption by providing resources to make minor home repairs (i.e. broken windows, water leaks, gas leaks).  In addition to weatherization repairs, customers will attend workshops that will educate them on how to modify their behavior to use less energy.

The race was held on Saturday, Nov. 17 on the Chickasaw Trail at Shelby Farms Park. More than 1,400 MLGW employees donated to Project CARE and more than 500 people participated in the race, making it a big success.

MLGW sponsored the race in partnership with the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA). The Tennessee Valley Authority, Smoothie King, ServiceMaster Clean and Start-to-Finish Event Management were also sponsors. All race participants received a complimentary energy conservation kit from TVA valued at $50.

All donations to MIFA for the Race to CARE are tax deductible.
