I love coming into the office after all of the Salvation Army Angel Tree items have been brought in by my fellow employees. It is so nice to see all of the new gifts--which always include plenty of bicycles--lined up in the lobby. This year, MLGW employees (myself included!) adopted 100 angels!
In case you are not familiar with the Angel Tree program, it is designed to help low-income families and seniors. People "adopt" the angels by purchasing the items on their wish lists. All items must be new and unwrapped. All gifts are taken to a warehouse and then distributed to the needy families.
Other agencies, like MIFA, and some churches, do similar programs at Christmas time. Each of these programs sends their list of recipients to MIFA and the director of Emergency Services cross checks the list to make sure that no one abuses these services.
