Subarus have been the car of choice for "crunchy" types for some time. I always assumed it was because they were built for rough terrain and were big enough to transport bikes, skis, dogs, etc. Well it turns out that their street cred is based on more than just looks.
Last night while watching the Gustav news on MSNBC I saw a Subaru commercial that mentioned its "Zero Waste Factory." I googled it and was extremely impressed to learn that 99% of the materials used in building Subarus are either recycled or reused. The remaining 1% is turned into electricity. So I personally produced more waste last week than their entire plant! (Which, by the way, is a natural habitat for beaver, deer, coyotes, blue herons, and more.)
Subaru does not make hybrid cars at this time, but they offer the most fuel efficient All-Wheel Drive vehicle lineup in America, including Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) certified Legacy, Outback, and Forester models available for sale anywhere in the U.S.
