Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division and Neighborhood Christian
Center teamed up once again to “Play It Cool.” The annual initiative provides
window air-conditioning units to qualified low-income seniors and disabled
residents of Shelby County.
Neighborhood Christian Center hosted a screening and application
process for the free units at 785
Jackson Avenue today.
“My
central air just went out. Right now, it (window air conditioner unit) is going
to mean a lot,” said Marquetta Taylor. She was one of today’s recipients from
MLGW’s Play It Cool program at the Neighborhood Christian Center. Ms. Taylor
talks with MLGW’s Tammera Lindsey about the program.
Lydia
Daniels stays up late at night waiting for it to cool off. Now she won’t have
to. She was one of today’s recipients from MLGW’s Play It Cool program at the
Neighborhood Christian Center. MLGW will be installing a new window air
conditioner unit at her Memphis home. “I don’t have to worry about having a
stroke now,” she said. “It shows that the city is concerned about their own
residents.” Ms. Daniels works with MLGW’s Dietrick Smith.
