U.S. Senator for Tennessee, Lamar Alexander; U.S. Representative for
Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District, Steve Cohen; and Federal
Energy Regulatory Commissioner (FERC), Colette D. Honorable, Esq., will be a
few of the speakers at the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) TN
Chapter’s Energy Matters Forum on Monday, October 24, 8 a.m. at the University
of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.
The forum will be held in celebration of Black
Energy Awareness Month (BEAM) to benefit scholarships for law, engineering and
STEM students (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). A series of
energy regulatory professionals will speak on the theme “Let the Sun Shine: How
Solar Energy Regulation Affects Your Community and Career.” Attendees will also
have the opportunity to earn CLE and CEU credits, tour an MLGW Liquefied Natural
Gas facility and network at an evening reception. Professionals and students
who practice in the energy field or who want to learn more about energy from
experts on the federal, state and local level, are encouraged to attend.
The cost is $100 to earn CLE and CEU credits, $85
without the credits and free for engineering and law students with a college
ID. Proceeds benefit the scholarship funds of the TN Chapter of AABE, the Ben
F. Jones Chapter of the National Bar Association and the U of M Black Student
Law Association.
MLGW supports AABE’s mission to ensure the input of
African Americans and other minorities into the discussion and development of
energy policy regulations, technology and environmental issues.
