Close to 54,000 MLGW customers were affected by power
outages caused by a storm system that moved through Shelby County about 7:40
p.m. on Wednesday.
11,
353 customers remain without power. Restoration of services for these customers
will be more time consuming due to the fact that these are smaller outages with
severe damage. MLGW predicts full restoration of services to be complete by
Saturday. Out of town crews will assist
with restoration efforts.
Crews
are working back to back shifts until all customers are restored.
MLGW
is asking customers who are still without power to please call the MLGW Outage
Hotline at 544-6500. To report an outage, customers will need to have their
account number or the phone number that's associated with their account.
MLGW
urges any customer without service to find a cool location as the heat index is
expected to be between 105 -110 degrees today.
When
temperatures climb above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, take precautions by spending as
much time as possible inside with the air conditioning, such as a shopping
mall, library, senior center or movie theatre. Fans cannot provide enough
cooling if the temperature is 90 degrees or above. Additionally, customers are
encouraged to check on family, friends and neighbors.
The
City of Memphis has opened an After Hours Cooling Center at the Pipkin
Building, 940 Early Maxwell. The center will be open today from 6 p.m.-7 a.m.
