Memphis
Music on Beale. It doesn’t get any better than that. Add the presence of an Elvis
statue for inspiration; mix in some blues, rock and roll and bluegrass, include
talented Memphis musicians and a worthy cause, and you have Plus-1 Jam.
After
a hiatus in 2015, Plus-1 Jam has returned to Beale Street with attitude.
Despite the weather playing tricks the first night, the Jam started in earnest
on Saturday, April 30 with several talented bands and performers taking to the
stage to raise funds for Plus-1, MIFA’s utility assistance program. The weather
was kinder over the second weekend, May 13-14.
MLGW
sponsors Plus-1 Jam on a stage erected on Beale by the Elvis statue at the
north end of MLGW’s Administration Building, and several of the bands feature
MLGW employees. Those bands include Muddy River Blues Band, Tropix, Memphis
Rock Solid, the Mullins Orchestra, Kyle Russell and Fear the Rooster.
The
last weekend of Plus-1 Jam is May 27-28, so come on downtown and enjoy some
wonderful Memphis Music, including a big all-star jam four-hour finale at 6
p.m. on Saturday, May 28. Many thanks to all the musicians who are donating
their time, to the organizers and MLGW, and to everyone who donates to Plus-1.
