Departments Team Up for National Safety Month

June is National Safety Month and Corporate Social Responsibility teamed up with Corporate Safety to educate employees and families at NuVasive and City of Memphis about being safe at work and home. 

 

Cynthia Hailey was joined by Safety volunteer Kenneth Harper. The event was held on June 23 and was hosted by the NuVasive Environmental Health and Safety team. They wanted to build awareness about how safety is important on the job but also extends off the job.  

MLGW shared with attendees how to be safe when dealing with utilities. NuVasive is a medical devices company that primarily develops medical devices and procedures for minimally invasive spine surgery. 

 

City of Memphis Workplace Safety and Compliance Safety Fair was held on June 30 at the Memphis Pipkin Building. MLGW was one of many city departments and local agencies participating in the event which was also open to the public. 

Safety employee volunteers Callen Hays, Eric Wolfe, and William Archer brought out the Hazard Hamlet to engage the many youths attending the event. The Hazard Hamlet guides viewers through various interactive scenes filled with loud electrical arcs, sparks and lighted miniatures to present common electrical hazards. The MLGW area also featured information about natural gas safety and emergency preparedness in addition to general MLGW information.
