Safer at Home - in Your Home

The COVID-19 pandemic forced MLGW to reimagine some of the ways it provides customer service.
Case in point - Michael Hamrick Jr., Resident Energy Services.

Michael is an MLGW Energy Technician. As part of the Share the Pennies program Michael visits customer homes. He conducts top-to-bottom audits looking for ways the home can be weatherized.

Taking Precautions

To protect the customer, and himself, Michael wears:

  • A face mask.
  • Shoe covers.
  • A hazardous hot suit.
  • Latex gloves.

Michael and the customers he services also keep a 6 foot social distance between each other during home audits. To limit the risk of exposure or transmission of the coronavirus, MLGW energy techs limit in-home visits to one-per-day.

Home visits are required as part of the Share the Pennies program which provides weatherization grants to low-income homeowners. Visit: MIFA.org/sharethepennies for information.

MLGW is also offering virtual home audits for customers who just need a little help figuring out how to reduce their energy use and lower their utility costs. Energy techs use FaceTime and Google Duo to go on a live, virtual tour of the customer's home. They can evaluate the property and recommend ways to improve energy efficiency. It's proven to be incredibly effective.

There is no cost for these services. Homeowners and renters can call 528-4188 or visit mlgw.com/energydr to request a virtual energy audit. #MLGWNews #ServingYouIsWhatWeDo
