Straight line winds result in wide-spread power outages

Full restoration will take more than a week

(May 28, 2017- 10:00 p.m.) –Straight line winds moving through MLGW’s service territory Saturday around 10:45 p.m. knocked out power to more than 188,000 customers. About 124,669 customers are without power currently. Full restoration will take more than one week.

MLGW crews are still assessing the impact of damage from this storm, but most outages are a result of large tree limbs and uprooted trees falling on electric wires. MLGW crews are working around the clock to restore power. The utility is bringing in an additional 70 crews from East Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina and Ohio.

MLGW is currently experiencing phone issues with its local phone provider. To report outages, customers need to call 1-800-268-8648.

MLGW reminds customers to consider any downed wire to be dangerous and to not touch.
