The Plough Foundation has
created a new booklet to address key issues related to the aging population in
Shelby County. The “Aging in Place and Universal Design: Making
Your Home Accessible, No Matter Your Age or Ability” booklet provides
information about home design, modifications, financing, hiring qualified
professionals and local resources that are available to help seniors age in
place with the quality of life they deserve. Please visit www.plough.org/aginginitiative to view the
information or to download a copy of the booklet.
The Plough Foundation has
also partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis, MLGW and Service
Over Self (SOS) on an Aging in Place program designed to improve the physical
accessibility of homes and to make critical repairs for senior citizens so they
can remain in their homes longer. Work for this program has begun
and MLGW’s role in the overall partnership is to inspect qualified homes,
identify weatherization measures and oversee the work of contractors to ensure
improvements meet energy-efficiency standards.
For more information
about the Aging in Place program including qualifications for assistance, visit
www.memphishabitat.com/aging-in-place or call 901-322-3500. Please note: the next
application date will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015.
