Despite its name, a river rat isn’t a rodent, but a person who spends his or her time paddling, fishing and exploring rivers. More than that, they spend their time defending the importance of rivers, from the habitats they support to the human lives they enrich.Dale Sanders, 74, a self-described river rat (Rattus fluvius?), avid paddler and volunteer/director for the Wolf River Conservancy, is looking for converts.
