Reusable Bottles
According to Earth911.com, Americans drank about 167 bottles of water each in 2006, but only recycled about 23% of those bottles. That amounts to 38 billion water bottles in landfills and $16 billion spent on something we can all get nearly for free at home.
* Tap water, according to the American Water Works Association, costs less than a penny a day — bottled water costs $1-4 per serving.
* A study by the Natural Resources Defense Council states, “a five-year supply of bottled water at the recommended intake of eight glasses a day can cost more than $1000 [per person]. An equivalent amount of tap water costs about $1.65.”
* Filter and purify tap water from home for pennies.
* Use water flavoring tablets, powders and oils with your reusable bottles instead of buying expensive sport drinks.
* Opt for durable, BPA- and phthalate-free reusable bottles rather than cheaply-made giveaway bottles to save more money over time.
