Celebrate America Recycles Day 2008 with Free Mulch!
Public Works will be providing free mulch on a load-your-own, while-it-lasts, basis for Memphis residents this Saturday, November 15th at Douglass Park (1616 Ash) and Will Caruthers Park (3880 Neely Rd.)
The landscape quality mulch will be available beginning at dawn and residents must provide their own loading equipment and containers. Commercial businesses and non-Memphis residents are not eligible to receive the free mulch.
The mulch is derived from trees and other wood wastes collected from the curb at Memphis homes by City Solid Waste Management crews. It is processed into mulch by the City's Recycling and Compost Department. Since yard waste recycling began in 1995, over 1.3 million tons of Memphis yard waste has been recycled, thus saving the City over $26 million in landfill disposal expense.
For additional information about yard waste recycling or curbside recycling call 576-6851 ext.1 or visit memphiswaste.memphistn.gov.
