The Commercial Appeal ran a story regarding TVA's 20% rate increase today, as did the Chattanoogoa Times. Links are below.
TVA Oks 20 percent rate increase...
The TVA's adoption of its largest rate increase in nearly 35 years will boost electric bills for Memphis-area utility customers an average of $18 a month -- adding to the miseries expected from higher natural gas heating costs this winter.
Tennessee Valley: Memphis distributor asks TVA for rate delay.
Jerry Collins, president of Memphis Light, Gas and Water, which is TVA’s largest distributor, appealed to the board to delay any base rate increase.
Mr. Collins said, “I am deeply concerned about the cumulative impact of these rates increases.
“If TVA approves a base rate increase in addition to the fuel cost adjustment, electricity rates will have increased for the average Memphis customer by $43 a month in the past three years,” Mr. Collins said. “That’s simply too much.”
