The Junior Fishing Rodeo was held at Johnson Road Park in Germantown on Saturday, June 7th from 9am-11am. It was sponsored by MLGW, Germantown Parks and Recreation, and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
During the free rodeo, kids receive points for each species of fish they catch. The kid with the most points wins a three day trip to Reelfoot Lake with his/her family. There were over $3000 worth of prizes and almost everyone received something.
Eddie Beard, of Electric Distribution, pictured with Jerry Collins and Bill Dance, has worked on this event since its inception in 2003.
Over 500 people participated, including Sherman Burton of Distribution Support and his children.
Over 30 MLGW volunteers helped with the event, in various capacities. Casting coordinators registered and carried out the distance competition. Spotters validated the children's entries. Roadies set-up and dismantled signage, stage and audio equipment, registration and casting tents. Water runners loaded, unboxed, chilled, transported, distributed much needed bottled water to families and volunteers.
Prize distributors assisted with the hundreds of donated prizes.
Grillers hauled the grill to the site, cooked burgers and hot dogs for all the volunteers after the event was finished.
