While browsing the Commercial Appeal's website, I was thrilled to see the article Area companies find ways to help smaller firms become more environmentally friendly. I have always been somewhat dismayed to think of all the bars in town that just toss their empty beer bottles and cans. I hadn't even thought about all the other businesses that had no way to recycle office paper, newspaper, and magazines in addition to their plastic beverage containers and aluminum cans. Thanks to Recycle Solutions, small and medium businesses can now pay a small fee to have their recyclables picked up.
Yesterday I also came across an article in Time Magazine about a brilliant recycling program in New York called Recycle Bank. Recycle Bank containers have identification codes that are recorded by recycling trucks. The amount recycled is converted into Recycle Bank Reward Points that can be spent at hundreds of local and national businesses like Staples, Petco, Coca-Cola, and CVS Pharmacies. There's nothing like appealing to people's wallets!
