MLGW employees will continue their 24-year volunteering tradition, Project MAX, by weatherizing homes in the Douglas community this weekend. It’s part of the spring kick-off for Project MAX, which stands for Maximum Assistance Example.
Founded in 1984, the community-based project provides innovative solutions, through partnerships with other agencies, to meet special needs of low-income, elderly and disabled customers. Our partners include the City of Memphis, the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, the FBI, Tennessee Technology Center students, AmeriCorps, Faith Presbyterian Church and churches in the Douglas community.
This Saturday, Project MAX volunteers will meet at the Douglas Community Center, 1616 Ash Street, at 8 a.m. From there, volunteers will move out to construct wheelchair ramps and handrails, complete minor weatherization repairs like caulking and fix minor plumbing concerns for area homeowners. The project will conclude at 1 p.m.
