Africa in April at Church Park
Friday-Sunday 10a.m.-7p.m.
This historic international festival is a four day event emphasizing cultural diversity and ethnicity including music, cuisine, education, economics, transportation, technology, history, fashion, demonstrations, arts, crafts, and creative performances. Each year a different African country is selected showcasing a multiplicity of mediums. The 2008 honored country is The Gambia.
Earthfest at Lichterman Nature Center
Saturday 10a.m.-2p.m.
EarthFest is a family-oriented festival that includes musical entertainment, an Earth Day Parade, games, canoeing demonstrations, environmental information, earth art activities, animal presentations and fun for the whole family. Picnic and relax by the lake or follow walking trails winding through forest, lake and meadow habitats. Explore new exhibits in the Visitor Center and view animals native to the Mid-South in the Backyard Wildlife Center building.
Down to Earth at Shelby Farms
Sunday 10a.m.-5p.m.
The day is packed with fun activities and lots to see and do. They'll have an all-day line-up of live music from great local bands, an action-packed kids' activity zone with a nature theme, fascinating presentations about the latest in environmental issues, hands-on learning activities for all ages, an assortment of animals, cool games, complementary guided park tours, great healthy food and even more. The celebration is also a day of involvement where groups team up to tackle restoration and improvement projects throughout the park. They're even providing free public transportation to the event!
